South Africa Insurance

As with many other countries over the world, South Africa has its own insurance companies who mainly operate within our shores. Selected South African companies are also spreading their wings and are expanding to other African countries or others around the globe. Many companies with headquarters overseas are also operating in South Africa.
So, when choosing an insurance company the prospective client has a selection of companies to choose from. Maybe you are patriotic and prefer to be proudly South African, maybe you are just looking for a fair deal.
Many insurance companies offer personal lines only but mostly the insurers offer business and personal insurance. Anyone in South Africa who is looking for insurance will be able to find the right insurer for his or her needs.
Please make sure that the company you are going to deal with and who are going to receive your premiums are reputable. You can expect good service and support from them; if that is not forthcoming, look elsewhere. There is enough competition between the insurers for you to demand to be treated right.
The company of your choice should preferably have a good claims record because that is ultimately why you take out the insurance; you want to be compensated when a loss occurs. Claims can be filed in a number of ways: either in person by completing the required forms, by phoning in the details to the claims department or you can also lodge the claim via the company’s website. The companies differ, so make sure you know what to do should a claim arise.
When looking for insurance cover you can do it in a number of ways: visit the company or broker at their offices or they can come to you, you can arrange the cover telephonically or you can do it all online. You decide.
South African insurance companies are regulated by legislation and you should make sure that the insurer of your choice complies with all the rules and regulations. An insurance ombudsman has been put in place for any complaints that may arise.
